How to Get the Most Out of Your Massage

At Body of Work Therapeutic Massage, we want you to get all the benefits massage provides. No matter what the reason for your visit, there are a few things you can do to get the most of your massage.

Before your massage:

  • Give yourself enough time to get to your appointment. No need to add additional stress by trying to rush.
  • Discuss any current or previous surgeries, injuries, illnesses, medications, etc with your therapist. This will give the therapist of areas to avoid or to use different techniques.

During your massage:

  • Communicate with your therapist. If the pressure is too light or too deep, if you don’t like the technique being used, there is a specific area you decide you want more work to be done, etc, let your therapist know so they can adjust to meet your needs.
  • Breath deep and relax. This will help the therapist when stretching and manipulating the muscles so issues can be resolved.

After your massage:

  • Drink plenty of water. The water helps your body flush out any accumulated fluids and tissue waste that may have been released during your massage.
  • Depending upon the techniques that are used, you might experience some muscle soreness. A warm bath with some Epsom salt and light stretching can help alleviate muscle tension.

The most important thing to know is that this is your massage and you are in control of what is ultimately done. We as therapists are here to facilitate the session, use our expertise to help you get the most from the time, and insure your safety and well-being.
